Beard care in dry LA weather: a survival guide

LA looks gentle on paper — sunny, mild, breezy. In reality, the dry air, hard water, and constant AC are some of the harshest conditions a beard can live through. Here's the routine we recommend.

Wash less than you think

Beard hair is coarser than scalp hair and dries out fast. Use a dedicated beard shampoo two or three times a week, not daily. On off days, rinse with warm water and skip the soap.

Condition every time

After every wash, work a small amount of beard conditioner through the full length. Leave it for two minutes, then rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle. This single step makes the biggest visible difference for most LA clients.

Oil daily, balm when needed

A few drops of beard oil every morning keeps the skin underneath hydrated and prevents the itchy, flaky stage. On windier days or before a long shoot, layer a beard balm over the oil for hold and added moisture.

Comb, then brush

Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle, then a boar bristle brush to distribute oils and train the hair to lay flat. Two minutes a day is enough.

Trim on a schedule

Even if you're growing it out, come in every 4–6 weeks for a shape-up. We clean the neckline, soften the cheek line, and trim any split ends so the beard keeps growing healthy instead of frayed.
