Most guys who walk into SIR with a reference photo are holding one of two things: a textured crop or a flow. They look nothing alike. They behave nothing alike. Here's how to pick.
The textured crop, in plain terms
Short on top — usually 1 to 2 inches — with a piecey fringe and a fade or taper on the sides. Low fuss, dries in five minutes, holds its shape for four to five weeks. Best on straight to wavy hair, strong jawlines, and guys who don't want to think about styling.
Flow, in plain terms
Length on top and at the sides, swept back or to the side, often without a fade at all. Needs four to six months of growth to look right. Requires product, a brush, and patience in the mirror. Best on guys with healthy, medium-to-thick hair and a face shape that can carry length.
The honest commitment difference
A crop is a haircut. Flow is a lifestyle. You don't grow into a crop — you book it and walk out with it. You grow into flow over months, through three or four bad in-between cuts. Most guys quit before they get there.
Which one suits you
Round face, fine hair, demanding job — the crop wins almost every time. Long face, thick hair, flexible schedule — flow looks better and gives you more to work with. Either way, the barber's job is to tell you the truth before the clippers move.
